Ricki-Lynn Achilles

PhD Candidate

Research Themes:  The Communicating Mind and Body

Ricki-Lynn completed her Master's at UBC with a focus in Linguistic Anthropology. Her thesis examined the interconnectivity of identity, emotions, and language revitalization, specifically aiming to understand how to create low-stress language learning environments.

Building off this research, Ricki is currently a PhD student at the University of Western Ontario, where she is working with her home community on Cree language revitalization. Her dissertation will explore the consequences of white racism on Indigenous language revitalization, seeking to help non-Indigenous community members develop an antiracist stance.

Research Interests

How Indigenous language revitalization is affected by white racism in small-town Canada.
