Research Themes:  The Communicating Mind and Body

Xin's research investigates how early bilingualism influences children's language and literacy acquisition. Her dissertation looked at cross-linguistic transfer effects on morphological word processing among Chinese-English and Spanish-English bilingual children with a combined behavioral and functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) neuroimaging approach. She is also broadly interested in individual and cultural differences in people's beliefs about learning and education.

Xin is currently a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Janet Werker, and her current work examines the neuro-cognitive mechanisms of how babies and young children from bilingual and monolingual backgrounds understand the meanings of words.
