Research Themes:  Language, Sustainability and Transnationalism

Zhuo Sun is a PhD student at Language and Literacy Education Department from Faculty of education, working with Dr. Guofang Li. Prior to coming to UBC, she received her Master in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from University of Pennsylvania in 2014. Her current research focus is to examine Chinese heritage language teachers’ multi-literacies and pedagogical practices from the theoretical perspectives of transnationalism and situated literacy. Alongside her role as a doctoral student and an educational researcher, she is also teaching Chinese as heritage language to young learners in a local Chinese language school.

Research Interests

Heritage language education, home literacy and biliteracy development of children from Chinese immigrant families, second/foreign language and literacy pedagogy, ethnographic research, community-based language and literacy education

Current research focus: Transnational migration, literacy practices, and teaching literacy to Chinese as heritage language learners
