Janet Werker Gold Medal Lecture, May 12, Science World
In honour of Janet Werker’s SSHRC Gold Medal Award, UBC’s Faculty of Arts and Department of Psychology are holding a special public lecture on May 12 at Science World. Dr. Werker will be speaking on ‘Bilingual Babies’ from 5:30-6:45, with a reception to follow.

The Centre for Intercultural Language Studies will host its 12th annual symposium on May 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Asian Studies Auditorium. The theme for this year’s symposium is ‘Challenges and Opportunities for English Language Learners in Urban Schools’.

On Tuesday, April 12, UBC Language Sciences held its launch event in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. Over 50 of our faculty and graduate student affiliates were welcomed by the LangSci steering committee, met our visionary donor, and engaged in lively discussion about this exciting new UBC initiative.

At a FIREtalk (Facilitated Interdisciplinary Research Exchange) grad students from across UBC make short presentations and/or participate in interdisciplinary discussion centred on a theme.
